It was a fun show, but I have to agree with you about the talking. I had a good amount of it just behind the chairs in the back. Overall, a fun little venue for free shows, though I wish the organizers would raise the stage another couple of feet so you could, well, see.
(fake edit: wow… the people in your recording really don’t shut up! otherwise, thanks for putting this up…)
I find your anger well-justified; it seems like more and more people enjoy being rude at shows. I really don’t like Castle Clinton after seeing a rain-soaked Beulah show from the sidelines, but maybe Okkervil will be better.
I dunno if my version came out better or worse… can’t download at work… but here’s a link to that track.

Jason
i would have done anything to be at that beulah show
I have this little lcd flashlight on my keychain that is insanely bright. i think when people are talking at shows like that i’m going to start shining it in their faces. “oh, i’m sorry. is that bothering you? how about if you shut up, i’ll stop shining this light. deal?”
You should not be afraid to get angry, and to do so in person. Though I couldn’t really justify berating the idiots who talked throughout Jose Gonzalez on Sunday b/c everyone talked throughout Jose Gonzalez, Sunday.
Ignorant drunk people seem to think themselves part of the outdoor concertgoing experience. My favorites are the ones who talk throughout their favorite songs.
“OMG, I LUV this song! It’s the best! I can’t believe I’m here listening to my favorite band play my favorite song! I can’t wait to tell Jenny! No, wait — Hello, Jenny?! Guess where I am?! He did WHAT?! NOOOOOOO! I can’t BELIEVE — hold on, there’s some guy scowling at me. I said SCOWLING. ANyway, I’m at (venue) with (boy) — what? oh, shut UP! — and (band) is playing (SONG)!!! No, wait, listen!” (holds phone up for a second) “Well, they WERE playing it. It was really cool!”
Thanks Jason! Your version sounds a lot better.
agreed, thanks Jason – and thanks to the illustrious owner of the site.
The talking thing seems to be a growing problem at all shows. Wish there was something that could be done on a grander scale to limit it, but starting by addressing the issue while it is happening seems to be best.
Anyhow – Jason, any chance you recorded the whole show?
hey, any one else pick up on the comment about needing 3 bedrooms if they moved to NYC?? Could a sister or brother be on the way for Magnolia?
Oh so cute, I totally missed this link while I was away on vacation. I think we definitely need to get you a stick figure avatar… it’s the next logical step after adopting the play tagger. I’m going to pimp your blog. HAH. Actually I’m going to start a new reality tv show (because aren’t those the best?) called “pimp my blog” and you can be my first guest on the show.
